Alvin "Al" Boyer
Alvin "Al" Leroy Boyer, 85, of Murphysboro, went to meet his Lord and Savior at 11:12 a.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Alvin was born on March 25, 1932, in Superior, Nebraska, to Richard Boyer and Frieda (Smith) Boyer.
He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Boyer was the General Superintendent of Brown Shoe Company, retiring after thirty seven years. He also was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro, a member of the V.F. W. Post # 7190, member, past president, and past trustee of the Carbon Lake Club, He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Murphysboro Masonic Lodge, member and past president of the Jackson County Shriners Lodge, and member of the Moose Lodge and the Elk's Lodge.
Al married Doris Sweet on October 6, 1950, in Corinth, Mississippi, and she survives in Murphysboro.
Other survivors include two daughters Beverly Boyer Campbell and her husband Joe Campbell of Normandy, TN and Connie Boyer Phelps of Belgrade, MO;
and one grandson U.S. Army Cody Phelps and his wife Brittney Phelps of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by one son Tony Allen Boyer, two sisters Ella Crippen and Nettie Underwood, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Elm Street Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Gravesite services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem, IL, with military services conducted by the Salem American Legion Post # 128. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pettett Funeral Home, where Masonic Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The family would prefer that memorials be made to the Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro or the Shriner Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
