Immediate Need

Let us take a moment to say we are so sorry for your loss. We hope that you will find this section of our website helpful in this difficult time. If you are looking for information on what to do now that a death has occurred, this section of our site is a good place to start. It includes valuable insights on many important issues, such as the kinship order of precedence as it relates to making funeral arrangements, and a list of who you need to contact immediately. As always, if you would prefer to speak to someone directly, please call us at 618-684-2101.

Military Services
In our area, our local American Legion Post # 127, V.F.W. Post # 7190 of Murphysboro and Post # 2605 of Carbondale, and the Jackson County D.A.V. Chapter # 69 conduct full military honors, (which include folding the flag, presenting the flag to the family, the 21 gun salute followed by taps) for a deceased veteran.
A Death has Occurred
So what do you do first? Our guidelines will help you deal with the details of tending to their physical care, notify the right people, and plan a fitting and meaningful ceremony.
Are You the Responsible Family Member?
If your loved one did not express their wishes with a signed legal document, then you’ll need to be aware of the order of precedence defining who is responsible for their final care.
